What's Inside the Case Henry Opens in Stranger Things?

After locating Max in the world called Camazotz, Holly discovers she is taking refuge in a grotto that Henry is terrified of. There, they witness a young, eight-year-old Henry encounter an man who is hurt and scared. Attempting assistance, the man fires a gun, striking Henry in the hand. Exposure likely occurred upon opening the case, causing the development of his psychic abilities—abilities he would inadvertently transfer to the test subjects under Brenner's care.
A second theory, the box could have held strange particles that was destined to travel to the Hawkins lab, where it maintains the stability of the mirror dimension. *The First Shadow* reveals that the boy was transported in the Abyss, returning after half a day fundamentally changed. From then on, he fights the whispers of a malevolent force, reminiscent of how Will Byers was possessed by the Mind Flayer in the past.
