The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL team.

Departure from Munich was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United seem to be building positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
