The New Animated Series' Introductory Sequence Chose the Wrong Popular RPG Show Track
The Mighty Nein, the most recent animated series by Critical Role, revealed a new introductory sequence. It features our favorite cast of misfits, misfits, and rogues fighting hard and making their mark, while teasing at several agonizing personal histories for key figures including Liam O'Brien's wizard Caleb, and another actor's warlock orc, the character Fjord.
Overall, the opening appears amazing. But I couldn't help feeling that an element was missing in the song choice.
The intro employs "Welcome to the Continent", an exceptional composition composed by producer and singer the talented musician. It's a track originating from the soundtrack album of that title, the second release put out by the production company's music division their music brand. It's a wonderful sentimental option, and I suspect that fans of the sequel series will appreciate its inclusion.
Personally, The series' intro doesn't quite capture the excitement and energy that was part of the second campaign's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by musician Jason Charles Miller, became an immediate hit in my view when it was first revealed in that year, and it only got better when co-founder the performer added lyrics to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.
Including singing from Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, a co-star, as well as the writer, the song was memorable and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't seen the follow-up series at that point, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my device. It's a song that excites you before you start an installment of fantasy hijinks.
The Mighty Nein's opening with "the new song" fails to hit the right notes in my opinion. It's a grand composition, but from what I know of the group, I can't help but feel that its mood is a little off.
Naturally, the creators has already said that the series will have some changes and variations from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its opening seems to be among these.
The Mighty Nein will be available to watch on Prime Video from Nov. 19. For those eager until then, or want a head start to learn about the personas of the second series, the original episodes are accessible on Spotify and YouTube.
