Spurs Manager Frank Calls Goalkeeper Critics 'Not Genuine Fans'
Fulham Start Strong to Defeat Spurs and Raise Pressure on the Manager
Spurs supporters who jeered goalkeeper Vicario were told later "they can't be real Spurs supporters" by boss Thomas Frank.
Spurs conceded a pair of goals in the first six minutes to lose 2-1 to their opponents, registering their tenth Premier League home defeat of 2025.
However the primary talking point was the visitors' second goal when the keeper gave away the ball well beyond his area.
He came out to handle a high pass and carried the ball towards the touchline.
However, instead of kicking it out of play, the Italian spun and attempted to clear, but lost his footing as the ball skimmed off Wilson and was controlled by King.
The forward laid the ball off to Welsh midfielder Harry Wilson, who bent a strike into the goal from the touchline measured at thirty-six point six yards.
Moments afterwards when the ball came to Vicario again, a number of Tottenham supporters jeered him.
Spurs were booed off at the interval, with the club 2-0 behind, and once more at full-time.
One of those jeering episodes truly angered the manager.
"I heard some of our fans reportedly jeered the situation and booed after, which, in my view is completely unacceptable," the Danish manager commented regarding the fans' response to his shot-stopper.
"[They] can't be real Spurs supporters that do that. Alright booing after the match, no problem, but when we are playing, we are backing one another, we are with one another moving ahead."
Kenny Tete had handed the visitors a early lead before Wilson's goal – with Kudus scoring for Tottenham in an better second period showing.
Former top-flight goalkeeper Joe Hart remarked that the next score was "completely avoidable".
"I do appreciate the fans' frustration," Hart added. "I am aware the role Vicario is performing. He is a great squad member, he is a true figure in the locker room but ultimately you are going to be judged by your decisions.
"The keeper was heavily implicated in what turned out to be the decisive score."
'It is Part of Football, I'm a Big Man'
Frank Defended His Keeper Guglielmo Vicario Following the Match
Italy international the keeper is in his 3rd campaign with Tottenham.
The 29-year-old said after the match that he had to take the criticism.
"That goal was a error of my own, I take accountability for it," he commented.
"The intent was to clear the ball far and I simply struck the ball in a bad manner. That made an even bigger mountain to overcome."
He said being booed "is part of football".
"I am mature, what can I say?" he continued. "The team cannot be influenced by the situation in the stands. Supporters have the right to do what they think.
"It's on the team to remain more calm, to concentrate on our own performance. The team is lacking in calmness and poise to overturn results. This match is a bad loss and it's tough to take."
'It Shocked Me No One Went Back to the Goal Line'
In spite of the keeper's error, it was far from an easy score for Wilson to score.
In fact it was the second longest-range top division goal of the season – after Tyler Adams' 43.3 yard goal for the Cherries against Sunderland, which incidentally too occurred on the same day.
The goalscorer stated he was "somewhat surprised" that he still had an empty net to target.
Ten seconds passed between the keeper exiting of his box and the midfielder shooting – which was five moments following the clearance.
"I felt like the goalkeeper was out of the area for a long time," he remarked.
"I was surprised not one of the defenders returned to the line. When none of them covered the net, my eyes sparked a bit.
"[Destiny] Udogie fell as well, which gave me a little extra opportunity. After that it was solely about trying to achieve the correct contact and get it on target. I had a good feeling, the moment it left my foot, that it was on the right line."
'When You're in a Bad Spell, All Appears to Work Against You'
Booing Whilst We Are Still in Play Is Completely Unacceptable - Frank
Although Vicario's mistake led headlines, this was an all-round poor day for Spurs to extend their home ground struggles.
This was their 10th home loss of 2025 in the Premier League, a shared team statistic along with 1994 and two thousand and three.
They still have home fixtures against the manager's former club the Bees and champions Liverpool to play before the close of the season.
Just a single of those victories have come since the manager replaced his predecessor in the summer.
"If you are behind 2-0 after six minutes, there is a mountain to climb," stated the boss.
"During in a poor run, all aspects appears to work against you too – the opening was a redirected attempt, the second is a error from the keeper.
"This result leaves us in a place where we have suffered another match. Every game has a unique story, this game we lost in the early stages.
"We simply need to keep working. The second half was much better and hopefully something we can use to develop."
Tottenham have lost 4 straight at home London derbies for the initial time in the top division.
And they are averaging nine point five attempts and 3.2 efforts on goal per game in the Premier League – their poorest rates on file in a one season (since at least 2003-04).
Former Cottagers midfielder Danny Murphy commented that Frank has to ride the storm.
"He's got take the criticism," Murphy remarked. "He has accepted a high profile role at a huge football club with enormous anticipation. There is pressure and duty that comes with that.
"Their showings at home have been disappointing and they have to get better {quickly|
