Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Retains The Club's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Loss
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's understandable for questions to be raised about his future following another convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their ninth defeat in twelve matches, marking the team's worst run since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I've received significant support from above,” Slot remarked.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and get a victory of course but when you're in a managerial role and struggling then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I am OK with my role. It is not the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Conversations with Club Management
When asked to provide details on his dialogues with the club's leadership, Slot explained:
“We communicate frequently. They are supportive for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they don’t call me every single minute each day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “Through standard discussions I sense the trust. However I've not talked to them since this match so far so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Problems and Player Response
The manager expressed regret over known weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their European loss, namely poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder stated.
“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the phrases.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I play for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a phase like this with results so bad.”
He stated, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And as long as that badge is taken away, we'll continue to battle.”
“Our aim is to help the side return to where it needs to be, show everyone once more what this club is about and the reason it's called the best team in the planet.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
