Jurgen Klopp says coming back to coach Liverpool is theoretically possible.
Jurgen Klopp, who departed from Anfield in 2024, indicated that returning someday is something that could happen. Klopp, post a game-changing nine-season tenure that included Champions League success and the Reds’ first league title since 1990, has since taken on roles in a global football capacity with the Red Bull group and providing guidance to Germany's league body.
Fan Sentiment and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
Liverpool won England's top flight in the previous campaign, but many fans who adore the manager would be thrilled by the notion that he may eventually return. Speaking candidly, he told Steven Bartlett: “I declared I won't manage a different club in England. Therefore should it be the Reds...yes. In theory, it could happen.”
“I’m 58, that means the choice could be mine in a few years, it's uncertain. Is a decision required immediately? If so, I wouldn't return. Luckily, no such pressure exists. I can just see how things unfold.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
When asked about what circumstances must arise to draw him back to management, Klopp admitted he feels no immediate pull to such a return. “I don’t even know exactly, I love what I do right now,” he commented. “I don't crave being a coach; I avoid standing during downpours for two-and-a-half or three hours; I'm glad to skip press conferences repeatedly each week or constant media duties a week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area in that context, yet sharing a meal with the team enjoying conversation, that’s nice. Success was frequent thus frequently great spirits around the place. I still have Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh in my ear to illustrate.”
Commending Arne Slot
He spoke highly regarding Arne Slot, acknowledging his role for the tweaks which secured the championship last term. They've been defeated a string of losses in every contest following significant transfers, but he rubbished the suggestion it could be the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward in Flo[rian] Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if spoken against. A remarkable prospect. [Hugo] Ekitike, excellent performer. They have a strong thoughtfully assembled roster. No need for concern about Liverpool, things will improve.”
Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota
Klopp also spoke emotionally about the death of Diogo Jota, whom he brought in in 2020, and the effect for the team. Jota was killed in a car crash with his brother in July.
“Can you substitute somebody like Diogo? This isn't just regarding his footballing ability, his personality mattered. I struggle to conceive the team environment without him in it. Putting it into words is tough regarding this. A profound tragedy for the entire squad also. Not a single person might employ it to justify results though it's a fact. Entering the changing area where his spirit remains. Handling this emotionally is challenging. Impossible.”
