How brutal is the life of politics. Look around that government frontbench: every minister is confronted with near impossible portfolios lacking the resources to do what they recognize is needed.

The legacy they received was more catastrophic than feared: they were handed explosive situations, misleading obstacles and massive deficits. The EU departure is proving to be even more economically crippling than foreseen, now losing the exchequer £80bn annually.

The Obstacles Accumulating

They suffer from poor fortune: the Trump administration arrived during their watch. What worse mishap than a corrections official releasing a rejected refugee individual convicted of sexual crimes? Small boat arrivals feel relentless.

An unfortunate leadership contest right now was certain to give the Labour leader a setback. The 11% vote share at the Welsh assembly byelection might not even be their lowest point.
